No.1 Bar and Grill, a traditional Scottish
restaurant with a homely, relaxed atmosphere located on Queens Terrace is something quite special.
With a stylish decor and a wide selection of foreign and local beers and
wines, there is something to cater for everyone's individual tastes. Not
to mention the endless collection of spirits and liqueurs to cleanse the
palette after your meal.
This year for Valentine's Day I was fortunate
enough to be treated to an evening within this exquisite restaurant that I've
heard such great things about, and boy it didn't disappoint!
On arrival we were greeted with a friendly smile
from the bar staff and were immediately served as soon as we had taken a seat
at the bar. Acknowledging we would be dining with them for the evening a
tab was started and this is when C's face started to panic. Julia plus
cocktails, wine and liqueurs with a tab could very well turn out to be the
start of a small mortgage. When it comes to rose wine I am very picky and
haven't been able to find 'the one', as some wine lovers would call it, well
last night ladies and gentleman, I found her. A light pink, slim and
extremely smooth white zinfandel which had a beautiful taste of strawberries to
accompany its stunning colour, and her name was Devil's Ridge.
After finishing our first few drinks we were then
moved through to the back of restaurant and led up the stairs to the balcony,
which overlooks the dining room. We were very lucky to be treated to a
lovely bottle of champagne on the house and to say this went down a treat is an
understatement. To start we had ordered the Camembert cheese with focaccia
which was for sharing. C is a huge fan of all things cheesy (even some of
his jokes) so we opted for the starter and it did not disappoint. It was everything
we had expected it to be, sticky, a little messy, but absolutely divine!
For main we chose the fillet to share (we don't usually share every meal
we have but these options were too good to pass up). The look on both of
our faces when our main course arrived told her everything she needed to know,
that we were definitely going to be leaving clean plates, and that we did.
The meat was to die for and the sides were indeed delicious. The
perfect amount of food for a sharing main course. To end the meal C chose
a banoffee pie with caramel ice cream and salted caramel jelly whilst I was
defeated by my passionfruit and lemon tart. Sadly three courses was just
a little too much for the wee scamp.
No.1 Bar and Grill definitely did not disappoint and I now understand the hype around this fantastic restaurant which is a perfect choice if celebrating an occasion or wanting to treat someone to an extra special meal. The variety on the menu is sure to satisfy all tastes and I guarantee it will leave you wanting more.
