A special place for a special occasion

No.1 Bar and Grill, a traditional Scottish restaurant with a homely, relaxed atmosphere located on Queens Terrace is something quite special.  With a stylish decor and a wide selection of foreign and local beers and wines, there is something to cater for everyone's individual tastes.  Not to mention the endless collection of spirits and liqueurs to cleanse the palette after your meal.

This year for Valentine's Day I was fortunate enough to be treated to an evening within this exquisite restaurant that I've heard such great things about, and boy it didn't disappoint!

On arrival we were greeted with a friendly smile from the bar staff and were immediately served as soon as we had taken a seat at the bar.  Acknowledging we would be dining with them for the evening a tab was started and this is when C's face started to panic.  Julia plus cocktails, wine and liqueurs with a tab could very well turn out to be the start of a small mortgage.  When it comes to rose wine I am very picky and haven't been able to find 'the one', as some wine lovers would call it, well last night ladies and gentleman, I found her.  A light pink, slim and extremely smooth white zinfandel which had a beautiful taste of strawberries to accompany its stunning colour, and her name was Devil's Ridge.

After finishing our first few drinks we were then moved through to the back of restaurant and led up the stairs to the balcony, which overlooks the dining room.  We were very lucky to be treated to a lovely bottle of champagne on the house and to say this went down a treat is an understatement.  To start we had ordered the Camembert cheese with focaccia which was for sharing.  C is a huge fan of all things cheesy (even some of his jokes) so we opted for the starter and it did not disappoint.  It was everything we had expected it to be, sticky, a little messy, but absolutely divine!  For main we chose the fillet to share (we don't usually share every meal we have but these options were too good to pass up).  The look on both of our faces when our main course arrived told her everything she needed to know, that we were definitely going to be leaving clean plates, and that we did.  The meat was to die for and the sides were indeed delicious.  The perfect amount of food for a sharing main course.  To end the meal C chose a banoffee pie with caramel ice cream and salted caramel jelly whilst I was defeated by my passionfruit and lemon tart.  Sadly three courses was just a little too much for the wee scamp.

No.1 Bar and Grill definitely did not disappoint and I now understand the hype around this fantastic restaurant which is a perfect choice if celebrating an occasion or wanting to treat someone to an extra special meal.  The variety on the menu is sure to satisfy all tastes and I guarantee it will leave you wanting more.

Valentine's Day. Bore, snore, get yourself a score.

Buenas Noches beautiful people, or should I say good morning and Honey I'm home!

Happy Valentine's day to all of you lovers out there who celebrate this beautiful day of romance and passion (I say this sitting in my pyjamas with the pissing rain outside).  Not a massive fan of the holiday myself with the floods of girls cramming my Facebook/Twitter/every other social network feed with how much 'more in love' they are with their boyfriends than you are with yours obviously (like any of us could really care...and to be frank most of our boyfriends are in fact better than yours).

This V-Day I am one extremely lucky girl as not only have I got myself a hot date (yes,  I'm referring to my rad ass boyfriend here), but I'm actually getting to spend the evening with him this year!  My first Valentine's Day with C was as follows - me sending him cupcakes in Aberdeen and him sending me a gorgous bouquet of flowers in the city that never stops raining, Glasgae (that's Glasgow for you non-Scot's).  This year we are painting the town red and hitting a great restaurant called Number 1 Bar and Grill.  Pretty excited about this as I'm a massive fan of date night not only because it usually involves a lot of cocktails, but also because we usualy pick some extremely tasty places to eat.

Valentine's Day can always be one of those awkward holidays with the question usually being "Will I or won't I?".  If you're stuck on the fence of "will I do something for Valentine's Day?" Then let me change you're mind.

Reason 1:
Orchid Cocktail Bar Aberdeen

One word...WOW.  If you've got a taste for something different and unique yet extremely satisfying this is the place to go.  Situated round the back of Soul Bar and Casino in Aberdeen's town centre you will find this beauty hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Union Street.  The bar and waiting staff will look after you from the minute you step into the bar to the minute you walk out.  With a wide range of cocktails masterfully created by owner Ben Iravani and his staff for all tastes, I guarantee there will be at least a few handfuls of cocktails you'll be dying to try.  If you're some what of a creature of habit and don't see something that takes your fancy get chatting with one of the bar staff and they will happily come up with something your guaranteed to enjoy!

Reason 2:
Granite Park

Just two weeks ago I made a reservation to treat my favourite person to a spectacular meal, and boy was it spectacular.  From the outstandingly professional service to the impeccable presentation of the food, not to mention the flavours, it was all too good to be true.  Granite Park, a little piece of heaven located just off of Union Street is a restaurant that I recommend every Aberdonian and anyone who visits Aberdeen, to go and try for themselves.  A romantic dining experience yet with a room full of life, gave the perfect atmosphere to our dining experience.  Valentine's Day (for some) is all about treating their other half and at Granite Park, you are bound to impress that special someone.
(I would highly recommend the confit belly of pork to start and both the Scottish chicken breast and Fillet steak were cooked to perfection).  Bon Appetite!

Reason 3:
Cupcakes By Jo

If you're really not a fan of going out and fancy a night in with that special someone I have a dessert for you that a lot of people in Aberdeen would kill to get their hands on...
Cupcakes have always been a weakness of mine and when I met my now good friend Jo, I didn't quite know what I was getting myself in for.  Cupcakes By Jo, the Queen of cupcakes, is a must for you're special someone this Valentines Day.  Why buy chocolates when you can buy adorable cupcakes that can even come with a personalised message all baked and packaged with love by Cupcakes By Jo, owner Jo Gale.  The perfect gift this Valentines Day and is perfect for any other special occasions or even just a cheeky treat to finish off a good day perfectly.  Jo's cupcakes are 100% going to leave you wanting more with her huge range of flavours and her printable icing toppers, there is nothing quite like these cupcakes in the North-east...
